A virtual public presentation was given to three different groups of Concord community members as part of Phase 2 of the ConcordNEXT project. In total, 52 members of the Concord community attended the sessions live, and 35 of them participated in the live polls. Click here to read the full report of the poll results. All 3 sessions were recorded and are available to watch online below. After watching the presentation, feel free to share your comments or questions using our Google Form.

The presentation focused on introducing alternative patterns of development that may be applicable in the “vision areas” identified throughout the City, whose futures are the focus of Phase 2 of the ConcordNEXT project. Participants were guided through an examination of existing conditions in the “vision areas”, followed by an explanation of the alternative development patterns, and then polled to gain insight into their vision and desires for the future of these areas. The presentations took a close look at many sites throughout the City, including the Steeplegate Mall area, the Fort Eddy shopping center, the Loudon Rd. corridor, the Fisherville Rd. corridor, and the industrial area on S. Main St.

Some of the topics covered in the presentations include:

  • promoting walkability through urban design
  • prioritizing pedestrians while still accommodating automobiles and parking needs
  • allowing for a greater variety of housing types
  • allowing for a wider mix of uses in certain areas

The presentations inspired some active conversation amongst participants, and many expressed their excitement and concerns about the new possibilities.

“There is a greater ‘human-ness’ with these [new alternatives]”.

“These new designs look like viable options for Concord”.
